Misato (美郷町; -chō) is a town in Akita Prefecture. Misato is one of the few municipalities in Akita that does not have a JET, and as such often slips under the radar for most people. Misato is probably best known for its ultra violent Takeuchi Festival in the winter.

History

The town of Misato was officialy formed on November 1st, 2004, from the merger of the former towns of Senta (千畑町), Rokugo (六郷町), and Sennan (仙南村).

See

  • Anti-Balding Spring. There is a magic spring here that is said to prevent baldness if you drink of its waters. Something tells me that this has not been scientifically tested as I can swear I have seen a bald guy in Misato Town.

Festivals

  • Takeuchi Festival
Unquestionably Misato's most well known attraction. The takeuchi festival is actually only one part of the larger Rokugo Kamakura Event that takes place every year from February 11th to the 15th. The takeuchi fight is held on the last day. Participants divide into two teams and brawl using large bamboo poles that sometimes catch on fire. Check it out for yourself to see what it is all about.
