Update

  • On the front page under Updates>Editing the Wiki, I propose we change:

"Need an account, follow the instructions here: Creating a wiki account."

to:

"Need an account? Follow the instructions here: Creating a wiki account."

(punctuation and capitalization)

  • Updated the main page with a new version of the Akita Map. New Template. Old Template New Map Image. Old Map Image. Image vector polygon maps were all updated due to the increased resolution size. Also redesigned the top logo to match with a Mt Chokai design. New logo was added via updating a new version of the current link from the sever due to the fact that I tend to break something every time I change something there. New logo. Old logo. --Jeff 20:30, 18 May 2017 (JST)
  • Via Liam Mitchell, removed the forum and link from the main page due to inactivity --Jeff 02:59, 21 April 2017 (JST)

Akita JET Info

  • Added a Akita JET Info section for easy access to other sites as well as our Akita JET map. 6 April 2017
  • I was wondering if there should be a link to Charity Akita in the Akita JET Info section of the main page. Though if that's missing the purpose of the section in some way, let me know. --SeanC (talk) 14:30, 6 September 2017 (JST).
  • I can create an icon and add it, no problem if that's what you guys want. I know previously it was requested that we had a direct link added because they said they were paying our bills, but there was still a lot of fallout from that other stuff so I ignored it. --Jeff (talk) 08:20, 7 September 2017 (JST)
  • My guess would be that they have probably calmed down since the transition. I'd say that it's appropriate to put up an icon for them on the main page; especially because part of their charity proceeds go towards keeping this wiki up. The logo I uploaded for the Charity Akita page is one that I copied off of their Facebook page - I don't know if that's the one you were thinking of using as a template. --SeanC (talk) 14:35, 7 September 2017 (JST)

The Akitan

  • Can you link the Akitan to the Akitan page rather than to a specific issue? It's still linked to an older version (2019), while the 2021 issue is out. This would prevent the need to keep updating the front page link as well. Might be worth to reword that little blurb too?--Baerish 11:38, 25 August 2021 (JST)
    • Tentatively updated the link to the current issue.
Which link are you talking about, though? The blurb already links to the wiki page on The Akitan. Alternatively, I wonder if a template could be set up that grabs the link in the The Akitan#Current Edition section so it doesn't have to be updated on the front page manually.--SeanC (talk) 17:18, 24 January 2022 (JST)
      • Thanks Sean. The link was originally redirecting "the latest version" to a winter of 2018, hence why I thought it'd be better to link it to The Akitan page instead rather than editing "the latest" link every time a new issue releases (rather than have a second link that just says "for more info..." for people to find the latest issue). I think the other solution would be to rename either the issue name or maybe create a link that will automatically redirect to the latest on the Issu website? --Baerish (talk) 16:06, 25 January 2022 (JST)
        • It probably would be the cleanest solution if you could create an external page that automatically redirects to the current issue on the Issu website. We can easily alter the blurb on the front page to point to such a link, instead of directly at a target issue. Also, if you create an icon for it, it could be added to the Akita JET Info section, too.
Additionally, I realized after I posted my previous comment that if a regular page is transcluded onto the front page, that would give anyone the ability to alter content that appears on the front page by altering that page. Since the front page is locked to general edits, that is not desirable.--SeanC (talk) 15:05, 27 January 2022 (JST)
  • Is someone able to add a link to the latest issue of the Akitan here? Icon has been uploaded (Issuu_round.png). Would require updating, or you could just link the Akitan account on issuu to avoid that issue. --Ajm1985 15:55, 14 March 2018 (JST)
Do you mean you want the image you uploaded to link from the 'Akita JET Info' box to here? Should we keep the Akitan info in the 'Updates' box too, or delete/change it? --owencunn (talk) 09:49, 15 March 2018 (JST)
It is already in the Updates box, no need to have it twice. Or you can, up to you guys. Plus you would have to update the link there as well every time. I do have a new Charity Akita icon, it’s on my time machine because my MacBook Pro died last month. I ordered a new Mac but it’s waiting for me when I return home for Spring Break. So there will be a Charity Akita icon in JET info during Spring Break. If you want an Issuu as well that's fine, I’ll probably redesign it to match. --jeff (talk) 10:36, 15 March 2018 (JST)
I meant to remove it from the updates box, and have a permanent link in the Akita Jet Info Section. And yeah Owen, I mean link it to here rather than the specific edition, so no need to constantly update it. --Ajm1985 12:26, 16 March 2018 (JST)
    • Ok, I will update the JET Info Section as requested during Spring Break. --jeff (talk) 08:15, 23 March 2018 (JST))

Layout

Figured since we had been tooling around with the layout so much we should probably have a section here for it. I think the new layout looks amazing, especially since Steven got rid of the contents of the messages from the messages board. Makes it much more concise. --Casey 21:54, 3 November 2011 (JST)

  • Loving the new image map, but wondering if we need the all of the municipalities listed at the bottom. Seems a bit redundant, no?--Casey 11:24, 5 November 2011 (JST)
  • I like the municipality list in general — to whoever created it, very nice! But as you say, it's slightly redundant on the main page and so could be removed from here. If you think it makes viewing the page a little difficult, I say remove it and see how people feel. --D 09:54, 10 November 2011 (JST)
  • Okay, first off: glad the layout redesign wasn't a total disaster in everyone's eyes. About the text box: I think it's a 50/50 split here. Owen and I both kind of liked the idea of that district list text table (I just re-used Casey's template) so I added it. Owen and I talked about how it kind of balances out the page and ends roughly near the bottom of the sidebar. Having it gone leaves a lot of white space on the right. I'd prefer it there, but if you would like changes, let me know and I'll tinker around with it. --WilsonS 13:16, 10 November 2011 (JST)

About

  • I put Steve's message on top of the wiki to give an idea of how it would look. I am going to revert to back to normal by the end of the day. Any thoughts? --CaseyPA 11:28, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • I think it is better with the intro by Steve. I also still think that the sidebar would look better with Living Guide and Working guide on top, then followed by navigation, personal tools, links, and tool box. --Michael 11:51, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • We can't change the position of the personal tools box. --CaseyPA 11:56, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • Bummer. --Michael 13:05, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • That info should be on its own page. e.g. "About". --owencunn 14:20, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • What would you think about having a short message at the top of the main page that says something like "For those who have never been to the site before, start [ [aboutpage|here] ]"?
  • Maybe just add it to the Navigation section on the left? I don't think it's in any way necessary for new users to see that page, its only for users who wish to see it. Wikipedia has it as a link in the menu. --owencunn 14:28, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • Sounds good to me; Having to look at that message every time would grate the eyes. I'll move it to the navigation bar. --CaseyPA 14:51, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • It is pretty hard to find the About. It kind of looks like it is about navigation. What if it said "Welcome to Akita Wiki" or something a little more inviting? Or it was on the title bar? --Michael 15:11, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • I'm sure anyone looking for the About page will find it. --owencunn 15:19, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • Haha. So user friendly. --Michael 16:48, 27 May 2011 (JST)
  • An "About" page is a very standard thing for sharing information about a website, and the current link to it is very easy to see. Google has an "About" link, and it's at the bottom of their page, so by comparison, ours is quite centrally located. Making it more obtrusive may well make it irritating, so let's leave it as it is. --D 09:14, 8 June 2011 (JST)
